Summer is coming to an end but never fear there are loads of opportunities to throw yourselves into!
 
LOVE MAKES AN IMPACT!!!
 
Yes you may have heard it mentiond before but it would be AWESOME to see everyone involved in reaching out to internationals, showing them God's love for all nations! You are all more than welcome to come and get involved in this one week mission meeting international students from all over the world and having fun! 
 
Daily devotionals, meeting exciting people from around the world, will do ceilidhs, food themed parties, trips around Scotland, working at airports and train stations meeting the internationals who will be in your classes for the rest of the year and getting a chance to do what Jesus said to do in offering love, kindness and hospitality -  and having some of the greatest adventures you can imagine all to test one hypothesis: love given can't possibly fail to make an impact.

FRESHERS' WEEK!!!!
 
Oh yes, it's here! Freshers' week has arrived and it would be fabulous to see you all! It's one of the biggiest opportunities to serve and to reach out to our fellow students. We'll be meeting at the chaplaincy every morning for some prayer and praise and then out  around the campus with the flyers the chat and the gospel!!
If you can't make please be praying for all the students who will be descending on Glasgow, for the freshers' week team and the organisation and finally that God will be moving! Exciting stuff.
Here is the plan starting from the  Saturday 11th September:
 
Saturday – 10 am Meet at QM for can-wrapping, prayer and instructions

LOVE MAKES AN IMPACT 2010

One week of mission based in Glasgow but reaching out to the whole world. Daily devotionals, meeting exciting people from around the world, will do ceilidhs, food themed parties, trips around Scotland, working at airports and train stations meeting the internationals who will be in your classes for the rest of the year and getting a chance to do what Jesus said to do in offering love, kindness and hospitality -  and having some of the greatest adventures you can imagine all to test one hypothesis: love given can't possibly fail to make an impact.

3,000 international students will be arriving in September and many will never meet a UK friend. Mostly UK people don't make the effort to say hello. LMI is a great opportunity to befriend the stranger, meet people from all around the world, and share love. One chap last year asked 'Who are you people? We are strangers but you treat us like friends.' and the answer is simply this: 'thats what Jesus did for us'.

If you've ever wondered what it meant when someone said of someone that they simply glow, or tried to understand how you can use your gifts, your heart in reaching out then get on board. For these new students, it’s probably one of the biggest changes of their lives. A lot of them will be moving out of a home they’ve lived in for nearly 20 years, and starting up a new life among strangers. They’ll be excited, definitely, but probably a wee bit nervous too.  Freshers’ week, then, is an excellent opportunity to share God’s love with folk, and to make them feel at home. For any prospective students reading this, seriously, Glasgow is awesome. You’ll love it.

But the whole host of events we have planned can’t be carried out unless we have the help of volunteers from CU to muck in. We’ll be helping freshers move in, putting out free drinks, holding  a pub quiz, and even having a ceilidh. But we need your help.

If anyone at all wants to get involved, please contact Scott Hamilton (scotth89 [at] hotmail.co.uk). We’ll be massively appreciative of any help we can get, even just giving out drinks. Don’t pass up this opportunity!

FRESHERS WEEK
13th-17th September marks probably the biggest week for the CU all year. Thousands of Freshers come to Glasgow and most of them will not have had the gospel explained to them clearly. Our goal as a CU is to give every fresher the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel. It also is a great opportunity to help Christians coming to Glasgow to settle in and find fellowship as well as integrating them into our mission team. The hope is that every member of the CU will come back a week early and help out. We will be meeting every morning to pray and worship together before going out and witnessing for Christ on campus. Scary…yes? But exciting too.

The weekly Wednesday 'Team Time' meeting is a chance for the whole CU to meet together. Throughout the year we will have speakers coming in to challenge and equip us, times of prayer and praise and opportunities to reach out to the rest of campus with the gospel. 
 
This week: The Commission

This week we will be commissioning one another as leave university for the summer. It is a great opportunity to pray for those doing mission this summer, for people who are going back to non-christian homes and for anyone who is staying around and witnessing to friends. It is all God's work and we need to be praying for it. We will also be praising God for the year so far and praying for more of His transforming power and grace on our campus in September.

There will be also be opportunities to sign up for local mission teams who are doing work this summer in Scotland.

It is finally here! This Friday at 6:30pm at the Thistle Hotel the ball will commence. Do be praying for all the non-Christians who will be there, that they would respond o the gospel and come to love Jesus.

EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH – a fortnight of befriending, serving and sharing the gospel with international people in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, the first two or second two weeks of July.
 
URBAN SUMMER TEAM – also in Edinburgh, working in partnership with a church in Niddrie to reach their community with the gospel. It's a pretty tough bit of Edinburgh (they do exist…) and so will include a variety of different outreaches including footie, mums and tots, and whatever else you can think of.

CHELYABINSK, RUSSIA – UCCF Scotland are linked with Russia, and every year students from CUs in Scotland go to Russia to help out with work happening with the CHristian Unions over there. It is a great opportunity and there is still some space. The mission runs from the 3rd-24th July 2010

All will include training in cross-cultural evangelism, as well as multiple opportunities to share the glorious gospel of Jesus with people. Get a pal on board and sign up together! Please email caz.dodds [at] googlemail.com if you're interested or just want to find out more.

A few people will be coming to CU next week as well, to inform you about other missions that are happening locally this summer, so don't worry if you don't have anything lined up yet.

This session is part of a series looking at the character of God and why we should praise Him for who He is, not just for what He has done. The aim of this session is to convey that God is a God of love and how this should have an impact on our lives. How does this revelation of God’s character have a relation to our vision of the CU as a mission on campus.

Pure Course

The pure course is run by UCCF and is designed for students. It is a chance to hear and chat about what God-centred relationships look like, the challenges we face in our society regarding purity and a chance to chat about marriage. It is in two parts the first being this Friday (14th) from 7-9:30pm and the second session is on Saturday (15th) from 10-1pm. It is not something to be embarrassed about attending, it should be really helpful.
